For Authors
OSLJ Online is more than a reactionary supplement to the print edition of the Ohio State Law Journal. The focus of OSLJ Online is the publication of concise, timely scholarship on newsworthy topics that are more readily accessible to a wider audience than typical academic publications. Our online companion quickly disseminates the legal community’s initial impressions of judicial decisions and legislative developments.
Submissions
Submissions to OSLJ Online should conform to the following guidelines:
Authors: OSLJ Online pieces are authored by professors, judges, practitioners, and law students. While student authors do not have to be members of OSLJ in order to be considered for publication, they do need to have written the piece while a student of the Ohio State Moritz College of Law.
Length: OSLJ Online publishes pieces of up to 5000 words, including footnotes. Submissions outside of this preferred range will be considered on an exceptional basis.
Style: Pieces accepted for publication have a more vernacular, accessible style than traditional print scholarship. OSLJ Online appreciates submissions with a more informal tone and/or unique voice.
Citations: Submissions should be lightly footnoted. Footnotes should be source only without any additional text or parenthetical information. As much as possible, embedded hyperlinks to sources should be included in the body of the text rather than a formal footnoted source.
Types of Submissions:
• Essays are original and timely pieces that reflect unfolding legal events.
• Responses are scholarly reactions to our print and online content. OSLJ Online may feature multiple responses to a given piece and the selection committee may solicit additional responses.
• Notes are publications of substantial length written by student authors. Notes develop a well-supported thesis that advances a particular legal field.
